No-one would have believed in the last years of the 20th century that a secondhand vinyl copy of War of the Worlds would set you back £25 in 2025. Ooh, la.

Going through some old snaps - found this lovely one from The Clissold Arms, which as all good Kinks fans will know, is over the road from where the Davies' boys grew up & played their first gig. They've a fair bit of old Kinks stuff in there, well worth a visit for those who celebrate.

I took this pic of our lovely Syd (left) and Nancy. It’s now been 71 days since we lost Nancy, who went 80 days after Syd. They are still in every corner of my eye. It’s an extraordinary connection we make with these things that cannot speak, or at least in vowels and consonants.

I think about lyrics far more than I used to. At 57, I’m not sure anyone is summing things up any more succinctly than Robyn Hitchcock, who has always made a habit of it. Here’s the opening verse of 1974…

A rather excellent Friday night in the company of the honey-tinged vocal stylings of Amelia Coburn at that Royal Albert Hall they have now. Who doesn’t need a bit of folk goth to kick off the weekend?
