A little woke, a proud parent, an old codger but not lost a sense of fun. Usually found doing something cold and wet outdoors. Loves local history (Liverpool), holding dishonest politicians to account and supporting the NHS. Did I mention boats?
Been a little busy at work lately, but finally catching up. Sitting in the garden and listening to the birds. What did I miss?

In the absence of sunshine today, why not sit in the rain and help the boy put new suspension on his Lotus. Curiously rewarding and didn't think once about politics.

Easy to forget, so I am glad I took some pictures too.

Day two we had a poke around Whalley Abbey grounds. Living opposite the site of Stanlaw Abbey and close to Stanlawe Grange, the site of the the monks farm in Aigburth, Liverpool we feel a strong connection, as this became the home of the monks displaced from Stanlawe in the 13th century.

With a biting cold wind, we kept off the hills for our Friday walk and explored Clitheroe and Ribblesdale. The small museum in Clitheroe is packed with interesting local history and there is an excellent choice of places to eat and stay.

After a grey week in the city, this was the tonic I needed. A couple of days messing about with boats. A very stil Hafan Pwllheli.

At last a chance to get out in the hills and sunshine. Bryn Allan near Loggerheads.

It's been too long since I was last out in Liverpool on a Friday night.

Not many down by the river today.

With wet snow on the ground today, I thought I would cheer myself up looking at old sailing pictures. These from 2010 show Liverpool Yacht Club boats at anchor off New Brighton, having lunch during a breezy regatta on the Mersey. Happy days.

The rain higher up the Mersey has flushed down a lot of debris today. The small boats need to be eagle eyed when sailing tomorrow.

I am missing the beach this Christmas, so here is a picture of an Irish beach late on a summers day. Thise dogs seem to be having fun.

Misty again! What happened to those lovely crisp days for walking over Christmas.... Moel Famau in winters past.

Given up waiting for a change in the weather and headed out to Speke Hall on the bikes. At least no one tried to run us down on the old airport runways.

A lovely dinner with family and then a walk to the river and we see this display over the Mersey.

So today we officially got old and took delivery of ebikes. It's a game changer!

In one house move years ago I gave a way my vintage set of Arthur Mee's Childrens Encyclopedia. I have just replaced it with a set from ebay. It is everything I remember. Politically incorrect but scientifically and historically quite rigorous. Best buy this year.

If it Sunday and the tide is in, there is nearly always yacht racing on the Mersey in Liverpool. And if you fancy a go, people are always looking for crew.

Walked from Garston along the coastal path to Speke Hall this morning. Fresh sharp winds but the clarity and bright low light made the Mersey glow.

As it's a bid grim in Pwllheli marina today - boats damaged, prizegiving dinner cancelled, power cuts - I though we needed a reminder of the summer and why we put ourselves through the trials of boat ownership.
December 7, 2024 at 3:52 PM
Hardly changed at all...
December 6, 2024 at 9:39 PM
To be honest, I don't even fancy sleeping on the boat in the marina this weekend.

Winter scenes Grassendale Park, Liverpool. Snow rarely lingers down by the river. This was February 2010.

A sunny day June 2010, the Liverpool Yacht Club committee boat heads through the lock onto the Mersey with a team of helpers.
December 3, 2024 at 9:15 PM
Close racing from the Zapcats on the Mersey near the Royal Albert Dock, June 2017.
