One of the benefits of digital audio (CD etc) compared to LP and tape was greater dynamic range but most modern recordings are less dynamic than many old analogue ones. I follow the advice from @ianshepherd.bsky.social and try to maintain the dynamics in my work, especially CD masters. Thoughts?

One of the benefits of digital audio (CD etc) compared to LP and tape was greater dynamic range but most modern recordings are less dynamic than many old analogue ones. I follow the advice from @ianshepherd.bsky.social and try to maintain the dynamics in my work, especially CD masters. Thoughts?
I’m starting 2025 in different surroundings. We’re having some work done in the room behind my home studio so I have relocated my mixing gear (minus monitors and acoustic treatment) to a bedroom for a week or two. I can make progress with headphones but looking forward to having speakers again
