I can only think that Trump is trying to slow down the US economy through tariffs in order to increase likelihood of more interest rate cuts this year. A problem with this approach is that tariffs are inflationary.

The middle class and the poor keep getting further behind because they live their lives in dollars, or euros etc… the amount of that money is expanding at faster and faster rates so prices rise, far faster than their wages. What used to be a comfortable salary now feels like it barely gets you by.
