There are quite a number of nine pin bowling alleys still active in Central Texas. Just close to my home in Seguin we’ve got Laubach, Marion and Zorn.

I was a tour guide there about ten years ago. At the time there was a display about American settlement in Texas with an accompanying text describing their innovative introduction of "Southern agricultural methods." I ask the lead curator if that was a euphemism for slavery. He had to admit it was.
