The great thing about this joke is that it's funny no matter which day you post it

I don't understand this one. Maybe if I could see how Lady Liberty would react to this tableau I could make better sense of it...

Fwiw the Amnesty slavery comment was regarding TFW, not students. As for the kids dying, I've yet to see anyone run the numbers against the intl student population to confirm if there's a real increase or not. Should probably confirm before we suggest Selkirk College is akin to a residential school

The goal of our messaging here should be in redirecting the framing (i.e. in headlines) to blame the provinces, rather than accusing "progressives" (G&M?) as being like, slavery-loving student-haters, which is a ridiculous strawman.
December 22, 2025 at 2:40 PM
Most of your sources, when you read past the headlines, are specifically blaming the provinces for not properly funding higher ed.

There has been inadequate attention paid to the human rights impact, I agree

I would say it's their mutual responsibility to coordinate a dramatic change in immigration policy with education funding.
December 22, 2025 at 3:45 AM
Yes. But the feds are the ones who made a big policy change, so naturally that's where the focus is.

The goal of our messaging here should be in directing the blame towards the provinces where it belongs, rather than signaling out "progressives" (G&M?) as like, slavery-loving student-haters.
December 22, 2025 at 3:39 AM
I agree but this piece is also specifically calling out the province to fix the funding. Whether or not it's realistic to expect the province and feds to actually coordinate and work together is another matter lol

Starts off reasonable enough, but then gets the cause of the housing crisis completely wrong.
December 22, 2025 at 3:28 AM
Very brief but reasonable statement that acknowledges and supports the need to crack down but disagrees on the details
December 22, 2025 at 3:27 AM
This is an extremely reasonable piece about an institution that had less than 1/3 international students in an area with an otherwise declining population. Definitely worth reading this one past the headline!
December 22, 2025 at 3:26 AM
This is reasonably calling for increased funding for education (which it describes as being chronically underfunded for decades) in tandem with the student cuts, as a solution to the root problem
December 22, 2025 at 3:21 AM
This is a pretty reasonable piece that focuses on the bad government policy of allowing unlimited international students to fund education
December 22, 2025 at 3:16 AM
This is a pretty bad statement from the Alberta senator, I'll grant you that.
December 22, 2025 at 3:13 AM
This is a perfectly reasonable and factually accurate comment.
December 22, 2025 at 3:13 AM
What's the number? Where are all these progressives? Absolutely no one I've heard from, including those who work in post-secondary who are worried about job loss, deny that a correction was needed on NPR.

By "quickie" I assume they meant "a quick delivery of rapid transit projects, as per the fast-tracked implementation timeline"

Is that who is upset about the crackdown? Be specific! Say "scam college presidents are upset about the crackdown, but it was their fault in the first place for exploiting people, so pox on them".
When you use vague language to criticize a potentially huge swath of people, you're gonna get blowback
