From Horizon 22 on a misty day before Christmas. Had never thought about how many buildings had large cranes lurking on their rooftops before.

Amazon's latest dump of films from the MGM archive includes Lindsay Anderson short The White Bus from 1967, which has some lovely composed shots.

Loop round past Tottenham Marshes this afternoon. Not much change in this view since the spring. Canal & River Trust had a gazebo at Stonebridge Lock where a woman sang decent covers of old soul tracks in the drizzle to zero audience.

Rye nature reserve then up to Winchelsea, yesterday.

Six years ago on the Ferris Wheel atop the Dream Mall in Kaohsiung. Ought to retake this next time I'm back to see what's changed.

Another chunk of The New River yesterday from Rye House to Cheshunt. A lot of walking past semi-suburban back gardens but some interesting and some more scenic bits as well.

Been rewatching The Muppet Show and was reminded of this from Not The Nine O'Clock News' Not 1982 book.

In 2025 London has had several much worse days for air pollution than today.

Started work on a new product just as winter was starting. Finished version one just as winter is ending so took the afternoon off to sit in the sunshine.

Also passed Google's new datacentre with its multitude of pipes and its own electricity substation.

Attempted another stretch of the New River from Cheshunt going south, but two long chunks were closed while they put in new all-weather footpaths so ended up seeing rather more of the A10, its underpasses and the suburbs of Enfield.

Lee Valley industrial estates with cheap space seem to either have a cluster of micro-breweries or a cluster of micro-churches. According to OSM this Leyton one has six of the latter.

You're not allowed to walk on this side of the reservoirs but it looks like it might join the Lea at that notch in the distance. There's no water level sensors on the hidden rivers, unless Thames Water have their own sewer monitors, but seems like it would be useful public info to have.

Which led to discovering there's another hidden river in the area, Higham Hill Brook, which runs culverted from near what's now Priory Court down to the Lea Flood Channel by the Forest Industrial Estate. www.british-history.ac.uk/vch/essex/vo...

Which led to thinking about the floods in Walthamstow in the summer of 2021 which were worst along one of the hidden rivers, the Fillebrook, running from near Wood St down to the Lea. The council report is interesting - £8.5m+ damage to schools. www.walthamforest.gov.uk/sites/defaul... (PDF)

This week's rabbit hole started with playing with data from the Environment Agency's river flood API to test an algorithm. Interesting the delays and varying relationship between rainfall and river levels at different locations, which no doubt are properly modelled by them.

Still waiting for retro nights to appear recreating events like this.

The New River, part one from Hertford to Rye House. Bit of a diversion at the start as Network Rail have closed the track crossings for pedestrians north of Ware, which they only tell you on a small sign at the bottom of a post in some scrub across rather saturated marsh.
