Ha, think Guehi for Frimpong and Semenyo for dare I say Wirtz would’ve been the way to go in the summer. Slightly concerned Guehi is the centre back though considering the aerial issues.

Think there were some slight tactical issues which has led to a mental problem now. Slot’s task is almost to get them to believe in his tactics again.

Agree with all of that apart from Slot being sacked bringing down the players. I’m concerned they’re not listening to or responding to him. Though I’ve got much sympathy for him in the circumstances he’s trying to manage.

I think the recruitment and approach this year has been too attack focused. The issue with the away games is that the team looks vulnerable so can’t get a foothold in games. Might explain why generally we’re better at home too where we’re expected to attack more.

I do wonder why after the league cup final and Everton away Slot and the club haven’t been more prepared for opposition tactics. As the article mentions, Slot himself has identified it.

Great article. It shows that trends have continued from last season even with a pre season and new players being recruited. I wonder why so many of these issues weren’t addressed?

Even a 60 minute match might not reduce the stop start nature as it’ll just be stop start but longer? I’m amazed players are allowed to cross the pitch to take a throw, would that change with 60 minutes?

I’d hope we no longer have a ‘10’ at the expense of a midfielder. I think Wirtz has to either find a way to play on the left or he plays behind a two up front.

I think Glasner saw the scalp of Liverpool being too good to resist and was not too fussed about future planning. Which perhaps applies to the Guehi transfer!

Think you’ve hit the nail on the head. How have the recruitment team looked at the squad and decided that physicality doesn’t need adding? And if fact reduced it by putting a No 10 in midfield?

It seems not so much an aerial issue but the team needing to be more aggressive. I’m concerned they’re all a bit too ‘nice’.

The game state impacting results cannot be stated enough. I agree totally. E.g. take the draw when away in the last 5 mins and start games further up the pitch.

This is how we set up in midfield for Everton. Wirtz finding his feet in Europe seems the way to go and this being our three for the league currently.

We’re creating the space for him to get lots of free headers and he misses them! Not much the set piece coach can do about that.

Think you’ve made a valid point Tony. Feel like we’ve been through this with opposition fans who tell us ‘it’s not about that’. Don’t think it’s beyond us to show sensitivity around a club we have history with.

One of Doak or Chiesa needs to stay at least until January if the plan is to add to defence after Isak possibly signs. Chiesa would get more minutes this year I would’ve thought even if just in the cups/europe.

Yeah, he’s knocked back Forest and Everton to wait for someone. Seems like the type of thing we’d do.
