Katie says: "I'm beyond excited to have been selected for this year's fellowship. I can't wait to learn from a newsroom as prestigious as the Washington Post. I'm looking forward to getting to know the team, diving head first into US politics and seeing as much of the States as possible!"

I was on the road for almost all of my three months and reported from 10 states as Trump battled Harris to take his second term. It was endlessly fun and challenging while learning from some of the best editors in the business. (2/3)

It says this is for British journalists - what does this mean? Applications are open for British citizens, or those with settled status or ILR, working full-time or freelance for a British media outlet

What makes a successful Fellow? The most successful are those who are comfortable with a faster pace and a hunger to try lots of things. So if you have that attitude, great - apply!

What cuttings should I submit? Put in your best pieces that show work you've done. If you're a producer make sure you let us know what your role and what you contributed to a piece.

What kind of journalist do I have to be? We look at absolutely everyone. We've had Fellows who have come from newspapers, broadcast, digital and podcasters. You should have strong writing skills though.

In general, Stern Fellows usually have about 3-5 years' experience at a national outlet - but we have also had some very successful Fellows who have come from regional outlets or freelance.

What is early career? We don't define this in a formulaic way. Put simply, you should have had enough experience to be able to be able to be of good use to the National desk - while still early enough for this experience to really help your career.
