I grew up in Kansas City and have encountered many a tornado warning that I dutifully “went down to the basement” for, but I have to admit I am flummoxed by this one. We also don’t have basements here…

The AGI religion thing is spot on. It’s Singularity 2.0 - religion for atheist techies. I’m very bullish on AI but I have trouble with that part.
