Atmospheric scientist working with satellite data
I’ve been randomly zooming into this satellite image of a Jamaican neighborhood and it’s just devastating. No tree left standing, houses without roofs or completely destroyed.

Nature is a force bigger than us. We should not mess with it. Hoping for #ClimateAction at @cop30brazil.bsky.social 🙏.

”The World Economic Forum’s Global Gender Gap Index has rated Iceland the most gender-equal country for the last 16 years.”

That is such a great summary of climate change from AMS!

I’m counting 7 Copernicus emergency activations (which does not mean there are seven fires, just that for those seven events satellite-based assessment was requested).
Take a closer look and toggle on and off current satellite images and burnt area delineations:

Der Sommer ist trotz viel Regen „besser“ als früher, also zumindest wärmer.
Bis heute in Berlin-Tempelhof 33 Sommertage statt „früher“ 21.
„Früher“ ist bei mir 1961-1990, aber ihr könnt euch das selbst aussuchen und auch andere Orte auswählen:

Interesting comparisons of urban and surrounding, more rural, weather stations during the latest heatwave in Germany to be found at this German weather service website: www.dwd.de/DE/klimaumwe...
Differences most pronounced during night hours, for Munich and Freiburg.

Früher war Deutschland im Mittel 8,2 Grad warm (1961-1990),
heute sind es schon 9,3 Grad (1991-2020).

The AI version of ECMWF‘s IFS model had a better 2-meter temperature during high-pressure winter conditions in this study over southern Germany. This was linked to a better representation of low-level cloud cover.

Same for #NISAR (planned to be launched starting from June, 18, now, it seems)

Fascinating experiment in order to compare contrails from traditional and hydrogen-fueled aircraft engines.

It’s crazy how much harm you can do with just one study.

It took 12 years for the faulty study to be retracted, and now, more than a quarter of a century later, there are still people around trying to link MMR vaccines to autism!

The World Economic Forum’s Global Risks Report 2025 knows it as well, climate change is among the key risks/challenges of our time.

Was this hurricane/flood/drought… worse or more likely due to climate change?
And what could be done to reduce deadliness and damages?

These are the questions that attribution studies answer.

That’s interesting. I was quite baffled, though, seeing Germany with a share of 50% or more. I’ve never seen a gas stove in a German household. Couldn’t believe, so checked their source, and it’s obviously a mistake, share in fact is 2.70% in Germany.
