After Mass. invested $10M in ESOL training, the Eastern Bank Foundation announced its own $10M ESOL fund for job seekers and employers.

The $10M will roll out over three years, Eastern Bank CEO Bob Rivers said.

Meanwhile, Mass. has more than $20M in federal K-12 ELL funding frozen.

U.S. Sen. Ed Markey said Öztürk’s detention, apparently due to a pro-Palestinian op-ed in the Tufts Daily, “was chilling the speech of millions of others who are not citizens of this country.”

He says Öztürk’s release is the beginning of the fight.

Carol Rose, head of @aclum.bsky.social, starts the press conference after Rümeysa Öztürk’s return to Mass. Rose said Öztürk and the courts showed courage.

“They have checked unlawful executive action and have defended the rule of law.” Rose said of courts and judges.

The JFK Library in Boston abruptly closed at 2PM. A local spokesperson referenced unspecified federal actions and directed me to the National Archives for answers, but NARA hasn’t responded.
