Proud of this. Like sending a thought out into the world. To be heard, ignored or rejected. But there it is.

The British theatre gathered at St James’ Picadilly this morning to remember and celebrate the great Tim West. I was touched to be asked to say a few words.

What an actor. What a man.

I love this picture of Joey and me. It's on the inside cover of 'Beautiful Lives' and says more than all the tens of thousands of words I wrote.

“Unwin's marvellous, elegant, moving book is a major contribution to the history and understanding of this thing we call learning disability. It’s a powerful, multi-faceted, myth-busting account of the most marginalised and belittled group in modern society.”

An important, intensively researched and beautifully written book ... I hope that anyone in a position to make positive change will read it and consider how we can move a little closer towards accepting that every human life is equal in value and every person has the right to be happy.

“With an astonishing breadth of research and a profoundly personal narrative, Stephen Unwin's book is revealing, wise, angry and hopeful. Thank you, Joey, for getting your dad off his arse to write this book.

Interesting: a deep intake of breath just now from Andrew Marr on @LBC @AndrewMarr9 when I told him that the 1944 Educaton Act divided children into two groups: the 'educable' and the 'ineducable'.

Made me think my book might just be helpful.
