I write about Pitt athletics for the Pittsburgh Post Gazette | Boston Celtics fan | he/him | be where your feet are

Re-sharing this here because:

a) I want to pin it to my profile again
b) it's my favorite piece of original published writing and
c) it's 70° and I'm playing pickup later.

Pitt's Saturday showdown against Notre Dame marks the 50-year anniversary of perhaps the most significant individual performance in program history, one that took the Panthers to another level.

Enjoyed this from Pitt DC Randy Bates yesterday: "I, being the old guy, my first goal in the morning is to wake up, … So when I get that, I stand up and cheer. It's easy for me to show them that we go one day at a time because you're never given the second day.”

Iowa only dropping 1 spot after a close home loss to a top 10 team is a good sign for Pitt, who hosts a top 10 team this weekend.

And only 1 G5 team ranked this week makes the doomsday scenario where an ACC champ is left out of the field entirely seem not very likely at this juncture.

KenPom says 70-67 win for West Virginia on Thursday, for whatever that's worth.
This was the first time this season Pitt has not covered the predicted spread from KenPom.

Youngstown State was supposed to be a 14 point win and Pitt won by 15. Longwood game spread was 16 points and it won by 18. KenPom predicted a 17 point win over Eastern Michigan tonight and Pitt won by 12.

Good for Pitt that A) Omari Witherspoon was able to make some shots and B) Barry Dunning Jr. did some good stuff on the glass and defensively and made a couple shots tonight. Two guys who need to get going if this team is going to be competitive.

Pitt is 23 for 58 (39.6%) shooting 3s so far this season.

4:1 assist to turnover ratio is the most positive thing about that first half for Pitt, in my opinion. They tend to get a good shot when they don't cough the ball up.
