Worked in a movie theater in high school. My boss and I were the first people in our town to see “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Amazing movie, it was a VERY busy summer. Our theater didn’t usually get the BIG movies, the United Artists theater in the big mall did.

We saw it a few weeks ago - terrific show!

Did that start with “ Dear Esteemed Author?”

Yes AND how long was the flight from the US? She’s probably exhausted from the travel. When my mom was aging, and failing, grace and patience (and “walking at Grandma speed” as DD would say) went a long way. I hope you all can enjoy the visit.

One of the best classes I took as an undergrad business and CS major was a “creative and critical thinking” class.

Even with everything that’s happened this season, his path to the championship was far easier than Max’s, who had to win AND have bad things happen to others.

Thank you for this recommendation. This is… beautiful, delightful music. NPM joining them on trumpet only makes it better.

Nice! What model is that?

When I was an undergrad, a million years ago, the CS department had two, named “vaxa” and “vaxb.”

We have an 11/780 in the lobby now (CS, different school) - a former chair was a DEC employee who worked on VMS.

1. When we moved to Seattle in 2000, our first apartment had a view of Rainier. A friend remarked that we were very lucky, and we probably wouldn’t have that again. He was right.
2. I love that I-5 through Seattle seems to have been aligned to highlight views of Mt. Rainier in at least two places.

I worked in a movie theater that showed that, first run. My boss and I watched it before a “preview showing” to make sure it the reels were in order. We did not move from our seats until well into the second half of the movie. That was a busy summer!

Or you could spend much of an afternoon, as I once did, in the (thankfully clean) crawl space under my mom’s house, disassembling and cleaning the vent pipes, which ran from the center of her house to an outside wall.

Here, as well. Year two for this tree and it lives out back on the deck now; usually we end up planting them in the spring.

Just have to make sure it gets watered, and don’t leave it inside for too long.

1. The Power Broker, by Robert Caro.
2. The Complete Calvin and Hobbes Collection, by Bill Watterson.

Both weighty, and both amazing and insightful, each in their own way.

Nice…

Not even close. Go watch the first fifteen or so minutes of “Up.” Not a word is spoken. Doesn’t need it. The power of storytelling, right there.

Tokyo was like that; all people, almost all of the time. Midtown Manhattan, too.
