I was just an Education Department guy under Reagan and the most junior WH senior staffer under G.H.W. Bush, so what do I know? But if I were an ex-president, and the current president were executing the most disastrous turn in American foreign policy in 80 years, I think I might say something?

We need to offer a positive way of thinking about public life & a unifying vision of the American dream that is new & promising but that complements & grows from where people are now in their minds & hearts, one which neither condescends nor criticizes MAGA voters. The arena is culture not policy.

Very grateful to President Biden for securing freedom for these Uyghurs, esp the mother of my friend, Nury Turkel. www.nytimes.com/2024/12/02/u...

My admiration for President Biden is eroded by the pardon. Disheartened to see his presidency now tainted by this Trumpification.

Will this mean a complete pass now on US concerns about Modi’s human rights record on Muslims, Christians, Sikhs, and other minorities?
The Patel nomination, following those of Ramaswamy and Gabbard, means that at least three Hindus are to play prominent roles in the new administration— four if you count the next Second Lady, Usha Vance.

The international religious freedom community needs more attention on the countries of the Sahel -- Mali, Burkina Faso, Niger, Chad. Worrisome infringements occurring. @USCIRF released a report last year but the situation is worsening. uscirf.gov/sites/default/…

Harris ran ahead of Elizabeth Warren & beat Sanders in Vermont, but behind Tester, Casey, Gallego, etc. Lord knows what the voters may want in 2026 but progressive does not look smart at the moment. And, Sanders & Warren even stress economic issues. Confusing tea leaves…

My Arizona brother wrote to point out that the shift that made Arizona red was mostly because male Hispanics shifted red. The prevalent explanation is that it’s a bigger phenomenon of alienated, working-class young males, lower in education and political engagement. He argued it might be machismo.
