In the article Bovino says the whistles actually help them (corncob moment) so sounds like they're supportive and would love for people to do it more

Just so you know they walked this back after enough people yelled at them. It is still classified as a hate symbol. Bullying works

I usually ignore pop music and I'm considering listening to her hits now, which wouldn't have happened before. I also don't understand what this is supposed to accomplish

Not to downplay the concerns, but this is like the eighth potential Reichstag fire

For what it's worth, they nixed the moral rights clause after widespread pushback. I'm hopeful that if they lose enough authors it could make a difference. I think authors have a lot of collective bargaining power because this isn't a full time job for most of us, so we have less to lose

There was some thing where a majority of the ELCA bishops signed a statement condemning the administration's actions, but I think it got taken down cause it leaked through non-official channels. Someone at my church read it to us, but I have no idea what to look up to find it again

It's saying "no recipient found" whenever I try and asking me to put my address again, do you have any idea what the problem might be

They also censored this speech of a senator calling them out on it, so it would be a shame if it spread across the entire state

NC's Congressional map has been gerrymandered to hell and back but that really only affects the legislative branch. The state went red in the last three elections. It wasn't particularly surprising

fwiw Blackout the System is calling for a week long strike from Nov 25 to Dec 2. I don't know anything about this other group, I agree a day-long blackout is way too short

At this point the only money I spend on Amazon is for ebooks that aren't available on Bookshop
September 24, 2025 at 2:35 PM
I'll have to look into this one since it actually had one of the books I'm reading now which the others didn't. And if you can add books yourself, that's actually more convenient than Goodreads.
September 22, 2025 at 8:30 PM
I have wanted to switch, but Goodreads is the only site that has all the books I read. I regularly read books in Japanese, and all the alternatives seem very Anglocentric. Do any of them make it easy to add books yourself?

Yeah, the Newsom post is pretty terrible, though I have seen hate for Zohran Mamadani for even his measured, noncommittal response

See I’m of two minds because on one hand I’d rather our elected officials didn’t praise people’s deaths, but I’m also really sick of the double standard

All I can say is that the "smokk" in "smokkfiskur" shows up as "condom" on Google Translate. Worth looking into the etymology perhaps. I do know condoms are actually pretty old, they just used to be made out of animal intestines or something
