I met with leaders of the Djibouti community last week - they’ve just established their own registered organisation to assist with housing and employment issues.

Aisha (to my right) is a well known figure in Yarra who has campaigned on many issues for public housing residents and workers’ rights ✊

44 public housing towers. 6660 public housing units. Over 10,000 people displaced.

The demolition of the towers is based on the claim that the towers could not be refurbished, yet the State Government has refused to release the cabinet documents that justify their plans.

Today the state government tipped in $200,000 towards a new futsal court the Council is building next to Atherton Gardens (Fitzroy public housing estate)

This is a huge win for the community

We’ve prepared a world-leading heritage study that identifies places of historical importance to the LGBTQIA+ community.

I’m proud to be part of a council that protects and celebrates our cultural history 🏳️‍🌈

Tonight Yarra Council voted to introduce new resident advisory committees in an attempt to democratise decision-making and harness the power of the community.
A new one is the 'Public and Social Housing Committee'.

Adam Bandt has devoted 15 years of his life to serving the people of Melbourne.

I first met him on the picket line in 1993 when he helped the community save Richmond Secondary College.

I just spoke with State member Gabrielle di Vietri and others at a celebration of the 50th anniversary of Vietnamese refugees arriving in Australia.

I pledged that the new Council will work with locals to improve Victoria St and save this estate where so many Vietnamese Australians live.
