I enjoyed Bryson's book, Mother Tongue, many years ago and so picked up this one. Reading his description of Carbondale in the 80s, it's clear this is humor writing by an irritable expat, not a travel log. I remember moving back from England and feeling some of the same hypercritical impulses.
