Snow shovel recommendation.

If you have snow to move a Canadian style push and tip shovel is much easier on your back than lift and toss shovels.

I push it along and when it has a plausible load of snow I tip up the handle all the way to dump the snow.

If I […]

Hmm … here’s one of the little filters removed. Looks like a bunch rust particles. Am not thinking maybe the pressure tank should be replaced.

These hot and cold water electrical control valves are less than $10. I took this picture so I could remember which solenoid the red and the yellow wiring clips attached to. The water section of the valve in the blue plastic body have little wire mesh filters for […]

I continue to be amazed at McMaster-Carr’s customer service!

I messed up the threads on a lug stud on my partners 2006 Camry putting on snow tires so I planned to order a 12x1.5 metric thread-repairing die to clean up the threads. At 7F it’s way too cold to […]

Witch Hazel flower with a frozen drop. Their persistence in the cold is inspiring.

Suki, our old lady concern dog likes to curl up and sleep in my pile of clothes. I asked her to look at me when I took the photo and I think she did a great job!

@JamesWNeal

An example of many different forms of license plate readers. Some are obviously cameras mounted on a pole. Others are hidden in things like traffic barrels, electrical equipment, solar powered signs, etc.

A month ago I mixed compost into the soil into my 30 fabric growing bags and planted a winter cover crop of winter rye and hairy vetch. I’m always amazed that these seeds can germinate and grow in the cold.

Hairy vetch is a legume and fixes nitrogen in the soil […]

Came downstairs and Stella was enjoying the chair I usually sit in and was very happy to see me. It was nice she already had her ball because during a greeting she feels totally underdressed without it. Her fluffy tail is so expressive!

Stella made a big mess in the kitchen investigating the trash, there was a collection of clues on the living room floor. She sat on the corner couch looking nonplussed as I explained to her that was “bad dog” behavior — certainly “unhelpful dog” behavior.

I got […]

This is a bit unusual. Luna, the calico kitty has no boundaries about using her bulk to push right into Suki. Normally Suki, who is a dog of propriety, concern, and delicate feelings will leave — but not this time ;-)

Stella is so happy when I throw sticks for her — and her tail, oh my! Cheers me up a bit right now.

A screenshot from the video just before the driver swerved left to avoid the plane — and then immediately swerved right again to avoid the big white truck in the oncoming traffic!

Koji and Suki in 2013 when they were both around one year old. Koji was already a boss kitty and always felt very comfortable around Suki.

Almost all the leaves are changing colors and I find it very interesting how the Magnolia’s leaves are still a saturated deep bright green!

In the background are the bright yellow leaves from the Witch Hazel.

Later in the day at Greenfield MA I think there were 2-3000 folks.

The march to the common took almost 8 minutes to move past me!

We just finished playing a 30m gig at NoKings in Orange MA. Lots more folks than what you see in this picture! Great speakers!

Heading to Greenfield MA next. Meeting daughter and 95 year old mother in law there!

The Saffron is flowering!!!

They will probably keep flowering into early November. The shoots will stay green all winter and go dormant early next June.

This year I got the figs off the deck and inside before the first frost!

The state of the world is much worse than a year ago so even making something just a bit better is good to appreciate.

Will be playing music with my friends at a NoKings protest in the […]
