Will still definitely watch it, and expect it to be rubbish, but an enjoyable spectacle. I think that’s a pretty Roman attitude to the games themselves. I’m sure Roman citizens were pretty fatigued and some even appalled, but compelled to watch the real horror shows that were gladiatorial combats.

I fully expect every RS movie to be entertaining nonsense, and can’t truly say he’s made a really good movie since Kingdom of Heaven (director’s cut version). The first Gladiator was wonderful entertainment but cheesy in so many ways (an an unacknowledged remake of 1964’s Fall of the Roman Empire).

This was—without a doubt—the most ill-informed election-year voting population in U.S. history.

Am I including the 18th century? 19th century? Absolutely.

Because back then many were illiterate and/or never saw much news at all, but in 2024 it was far worse: voters were certain of lies being true.
