Shocking absolutely no one the Supreme Court has already paused this order.

It’s unfortunate we had to reach this point, with millions starving and no movement towards extending needed ACA subsidies.

While today feels like a significant loss, it was a necessary one.

We cannot give up. We must continue to fight every battle from now until 2028.

I don’t think they ever believed (maybe naively) Trump would illegally withhold SNAP funding.

But more importantly (and maybe even more naively) that SCOTUS would allow him to.

I think Jackson’s order forced their hand, and they capitulated to end the suffering of millions.

Honestly, yours was the only actual conversation that came out of my response. And I appreciate it, the conversation that is.

I wish times like these would lead to more conversations, and not instant condemnation of differing opinions.

Especially when we most likely only disagree on strategy.
November 10, 2025 at 7:36 AM
I think on that, at least, we can agree.
November 10, 2025 at 7:27 AM
I vote for Dems.

Dems shut down the govt to avoid losing ACA subsidies.

After the longest federal shut down in US history, Dems realize they can’t win this fight and allow a CR to pass so starving people can eat.

But sure. They’re the fascists.
November 10, 2025 at 7:01 AM
ACA subsidies are the only reason the shut down happened.

If you don’t understand that, you don’t understand what is happening right now.
November 10, 2025 at 6:56 AM
We see where this fight takes us over the next year, but to declare defeat today seems unwise.
November 10, 2025 at 6:55 AM
SCOTUS has already historically unpopular, they don’t face reelection, and clearly don’t care about being unpopular.

People are already upset about subsidies, it will only get worse next year when they go into effect.

The way to win, is to consistently make it an issue. Every CR. Every budget.
November 10, 2025 at 6:54 AM
You realize it was the government shut down itself that caused folks to lose access to snap benefits, right?

They were never going to win this current fight over ACA subsidies, and in my opinion it is unconscionable to continue the suffering of snap recipients.

There are no cuts to SNAP in the CR.
November 10, 2025 at 6:51 AM
I must have imagined the longest government shutdown in US history.
November 10, 2025 at 6:44 AM
We can’t rely on the courts to save us, because even when they do, SCOTUS always steps in to save Trump.

The only way to win this war, is to win next November.

The way we win next November, is by ensuring blame, goes where it is deserved. And that is solely Trump and GOP members of Congress.
November 10, 2025 at 6:42 AM
The last 11 months of SNAP funds not being withheld?
November 10, 2025 at 6:35 AM
I want ACA subsidies to be extended, but it just wasn’t going to happen. Not in this budget. We have no leverage. We never did.

Last Tuesday was a complete repudiation of the current government and it changed nothing in the current fight.

This is a war. Wars aren’t won or lost in a single fight.
November 10, 2025 at 6:25 AM
They won when folks didn’t show up to vote for Harris.

They’ll win again if folks don’t show up in 2026 and 2028.

The only way we’re going to get change, is to primary out the centrists when we can but still support Dems when we can’t.

A centrist Dem POTUS and Congress increased ACA subsidies.
November 10, 2025 at 6:15 AM
Let’s say senate Democrats don’t make the deal, what then?

The most likely scenario is the GOP kills the filibuster, at least for budget related bills, and passes a CR with no future vote to save ACA subsidies.

Isn’t even the smallest concession worth a shit sandwich of a deal?
November 10, 2025 at 6:10 AM
You’re not wrong, but at least people are gonna be able to afford food.

Hopefully next year we can primary the worst of senate dems out.

But just letting Republicans win out of spite isn’t gonna help anyone.
November 10, 2025 at 5:47 AM
And don’t forget, people are already starving. And will continue to starve until snap funding makes it to the states.

But I’m not going to weigh hypothetical suffering over actual suffering. And anyone who does in my opinion is a fucking monster.
November 10, 2025 at 5:45 AM
Not really, because it doesn’t fucking matter. Nothing I could say does.

But holding up some court order, that will most likely get overturned by the Supreme Court if it’s not outright ignored by Trump is not quite the victory lap you think it is.
November 10, 2025 at 5:44 AM
You understand there are people that haven’t been able to buy food since late October and will die… right?

Just because YOU are food secure doesn’t mean everyone is.
November 10, 2025 at 5:37 AM
SNAP doesn’t need emergency funds if the government is open, so yes… it is very much a part of the deal.
November 10, 2025 at 5:36 AM
You have health care today.

SNAP recipients are starving now.

Their immediate suffering outweighs your potential future suffering.

I’ve lived without healthcare. It was fucking scary.

But I’ve also been food insecure and that shit is another fucking level of misery.
November 10, 2025 at 5:27 AM
Ahh yes. How dare I care about starving SNAP recipients.

I’m such a monster.
