The UK is now heavily invested in CO2 removal, with 6 government pilot projects underway, and assumptions of large scale carbon removal built into (but being steadily de-emphasised) in net zero commitments.

The cost *per tonne* of CO2 removed remains eyewatering - at between £25k and £30k […]

Exxon Mobil had plans to use this capacity to store captured emissions from its Fawley refinery, by building a pipeline across the Isle of Wight. The plan generated enormous opposition, was accused of being used as greenwashing, and has now been abandoned.
