#folktaleweek day 6 (which I am posting late) is storm.

But aren't storms the Best time to be indoors with friends? Books have once again connected people together.

The weekend is busier than I expected, don't know if I will make the deadline for today's post either 😅

Day 5 of #folktaleweek is charm.

Oh look! The mysterious furry critter is a friend! And is that the same book in their hands? Looks like another book fan!

There's no better way to charm and make friends than sharing the love of books

Day 4 of #folktaleweek is Book.
There's nothing better than spending a rainy evening with a cozy read under the light of the mushrooms.
Good thing our fox hero always carries a book with him just in case of unexpected rain!
Oh wait, whose that? Friend or foe?

Day three of #folktaleweek is rain.
Uh oh! The weather has turned! Good thing there's this handy cave right there ...

Day 2 #folktaleweek Echo.

Our little fox is lead to a cave in the woods. He hears an echo, but is it his echo or someone else's?
Should he go inside?

Day one of #folktaleweek is dark! Our little hero is making his way through the dark woods, following a path lit by mushrooms? Is this a good idea? We'll see!

A little sneak peak for #folktaleweek. Trying my best, little by little, to put some art together for this challenge, which I'm inspired by each year, but don't always have the time to participate in. But 15min a day seems to be making me some progress.

Not really a scary book in the typical sense, the ending is more sad, but the art work by Joohee Yoon is absolutely gorgeous 🥰 #kidlitart

Lol it's even fun when the house deflates their decor for the night 🤣 #kidlitart

Hello! I love this month, my neighbourhood goes wild with the spooky decor. My wins for the month:
1) finished my course on UI/UX design, and man what a course! A lot of hard work and started learning Figma
2) one of my pieces got accepted in a magazine! Can't share just yet though 🤫

Little two page squirrel study. They continue to be tricky to figure out base shapes. As I was drawing these I kept thinking how organic their shapes are.
fun to draw but tough for figuring out consistency.

Hi #kidlitartpostcard day! You snuck up on me again! Honestly I'm a bit busy these days, but open to smaller illustration projects, covers, magazine work, etc!

The leaves are changing, and there's a nip in the air! Time to migrate! (South for the birds, cozy cafes for me)

And I'm back to the character drawing board (process). Next up I'm going to explore a character based on the Red Squirrel. So starting with some studies.
I actually find it really different to draw squirrels. They have a lot of flexible shapes. #sketchbook #animals #kidlitart

Say hello to Detective "Zip" Hummingbird! After a few weeks of playing with character design, this feels right and I had a lot of fun making this sheet! Going to focus on some other characters that will exist in the same world as Zip next.

Two different mornings, same pond. It's really wild to me the difference lighting makes when it comes to colour and focus. On the left the lovely trees in the background are highlighted. On the right, the lovely oranges and yellows of the foreground. Both were lovely mornings at #highpark #toronto

Detective humming bird is shaping up! Although I think his magnifying glass may be a bit too big to be functional! So I might scale that down! Lol

#nature pop quiz!
Flower or Fungi?

Came across these cute little things on morning walk in high Park and couldn't help but do some investigating!

On our way out we spotted an animal friend. Can you spot her in the picture below?

Is anything more wonderful than #nature bathing in a beautiful provincial park? (Perhaps nature bathing with some chocolate).
Spent the weekend Backcountry camping in Frontenac Provincial Park, our home away from home! The air was crisp, clean and wonderful. I feel so blessed.💕🌳🌲🐿️💚

Detective #hummingbird style exploration! Which one is your favourite?
I want my hummingbird to be on the younger, more naive side (figured it would make for some fun, bumbling adventures) so I'm leaning towards number 10.

Hello #kidlitartpostcard! So it's not technically fall yet, but let's be honest, that fall vibe is coming in fast! I wish you many yummy treats this autumn!

Also hello, I'm a Toronto illustrator and I love drawing kidlit, nature and animals!

I haven't posted in a bit but still working on my #hummingbird detective character development. These two pages were "hat" tests. I originally went with a film noir look but realized I wanted something a bit more fun and young. Also the character reminded me too much of another cartoon.

Day 5 of daily art and more hummingbirds! Starting to get a feel for the shape and the wings. Think I will try stylizing the birds tomorrow.

And I love the illustration style so much! Zachariah does so much with a limited but eye catching palette. And all the little details are so fun! Can you spot the fun detail of bear exciting his cave in the window of the girl's room? I didn't! It was a nice surprise after the 3rd read.

We were a little sad saying bye when we returned this book to the library today. HORRIBLE BEAR by @amedyckman.bsky.social, illustrated by Zachariah OHora was such a fun read! With lots of opportunities to yell out "horrible bear" before the book concludes with a really sweet bear ending! #kidlit
