Treasury’s follow-up? “You really should stay calm and not retaliate.”
So not just a war with everyone at once — but a demand for surrender too! Very “Kyiv in 3 days” vibes.

The current marine weather forecast in the area for tomorrow predicts 33ft waves and 60kn wind gusts and it stays bad all week. That will be an extremely challenging rescue of the crew, unlikely they can tow in those conditions. If they can’t get their their ship running they are in trouble.

How much of the resource exploration licenses are Chinese vs American?

Of course, who wouldn’t wish to fly an airliner with air defense damage across a huge body of water that offers certain death if crashed into! Much better than landing at a local airport or flying back along the coast to Baku.

This still doesn’t make a lot of sense. They could have landed in Georgia or flown back all the way to Baku for the same distance as crossing the Caspian and without a risky crossing over a large body of water. Did the Russians want the flight to crash and disappear and forced the pilots east?
December 26, 2024 at 1:21 PM
Yeah this whole story makes absolutely no sense. They could have flown all the way back to Baku, much safer over land, for the same distance as Kazhakstan. Something major is missing here. Map and full distances:

The crash of Azerbaijan airlines makes no sense. The flight took off in Baku and flew to Grozni. Reports have it that it hit a flock of birds while on approach to Grozny. Let’s ignore the bird vs missile issue. The plane crash landed in Aktau, Kazakhstan. That’s a 450km flight across the Caspian!!

They could in fact have flown all the way back to Baku where they came from for basically the same distance, all of it over land.

Here’s the map of where the strike supposedly happened and where they crashed.

Cruising speed of the plane is 800km/h. So about a 35 minute detour for absolutely no logical reason I can see. They could have landed in Russia, but they chose to make a 35 minute detour across a large body of water? Could be Russians are lying (near certainty) or the facts are just wrong.
December 26, 2024 at 11:13 AM
Do we have any idea how the plane ended up in Kazakhstan? The absolutely nearest point from Grozny is 380km. Who gets hit by AA and then detours what must have been at least half an hour?

Yeah but given how much power Elon now has, until he and Trump fall out, major political figures leaving Twitter and coming here could be retaliated against, especially given the tariff debates in which Elon will likely play a significant role.

Fair chance Musk and Trump will fall out and get messy-divorced way before Germany does anything. Doesn’t feel like those two will get along well. Sharing custody over attention doesn’t seem to be either of their thing.

Thanks, makes sense in the context of their other activities and repression of the protests. Still outraged that they detained and deported me at the airport, I was planning on standing side by side with Georgians again and document GDs repression. Hopefully I can come back under a new government!

How do these numbers compare to previous elections? Was this always a problem or did GD ramp up intimidation for this election?

EU states have relinquished sovereignty on matters of direct national interest -- pushing back against the Kremlin -- without fully even realizing what they've done.
Essentially, they've abdicated their future, and put it into the hands of Viktor Orban.
It's unforgivable if this drift continues.

Was the AIS data of the ships wrong when they sank? They were shown north east of the Kerch bridge well into the Sea of Azov, how is the oil down there?
December 17, 2024 at 7:45 PM
Strong prevailing winds coming from the west off of occupied Ukrainian territory towards Russia all week, likely pushing any spilled oil onto Russian coast lines.

How is this being billed as a win? Russia used energy successfully as a weapon. Austria kept paying for gas until recently and only due to Russias choice of cutting gas did Austria terminate. Russia will never pay the fine of course. Every decision was made by Russia in their own best interest.

Photographers from Anadolu have been following The White Helmets inside Sednaya prison.

In a chilling echo of Holocaust images, they have found rooms filled with hundreds of shoes and discarded clothes. Many blood-soaked nooses have been found too.

Unimaginable depravity. #Syria

What is the source for the numbers? I can’t find them anywhere from this meeting, would be the first time Zelensky announced Ukraine’s casualties.
