Taxis INCREASE amount of traffic in a city. Person A drives 10 miles to work. Person B drives 5 miles to their work. If they took taxis they would drive the same mileage, plus the distance persons A and B would walk, AND would then have to drive to pick up person A and B.
Taxis cause more traffic.
