Another tool for Royal Road authors and readers. Both for exploration of similar books to read and searching for shoutout candidates: reverse search Others Also Liked.

That's a section on each book's page that may list other books of a similar size that share followers.

In the other news, my Royal Road analytical tools have this fun measuring thingy now :)

Here's an achievement that's on a whole new level. I became the target of a meme!

Many thanks to u/TheTrojanAlchemist for creating and posting it on reddit :)

Wow, what a ride! The last chapter of Book 1 of Worlds of Ascension is scheduled for the 30th of April. I'm going to take a break after that to tighten the story and rewrite some chapters. The book is far from perfect, but it was such a great educational experience for me!

I've made a few updates to my Rising Stars Checker tool for Royal Road. Now, it offers an estimate for how far the book is from the main Rising Stars list :)

Hey, fellow Royal Road authors! If you’re anything like me—a totally chill, not-at-all-obsessed person who definitely doesn’t check their subgenre Rising Stars position every five minutes—then you’re going to love this little tool I cooked up.

A package that I sent from the UK to France 6 weeks ago is trying to find its way through multiple sorting centers of US Postal Service after it was erroneously sent to the US 🧵

You still have a chance to join the great collective of the readers of my first fantasy book before there are less than a thousand of them :)

Jokes aside, I'm still quite amazed how fast it all evolves. My initial plans were to gain 300 followers before the end of the year.

Today's drive from Brugge to Berlin was definitely one of the top-3 most exhausting drives in my life.

9 hours of constant torrential rain.

Plus three hours yesterday from Windsor to Brugge. Also under constant rain.

Wow!

Here's something grand! I've got a first patron on my book's Patreon account!

This feels quite amazing :)
December 12, 2024 at 10:56 AM
That's pretty intense. Just crossed 500 followers with my first book. That's insane. If any of my readers are here: you are amazing :)

I sort of hoped to get to 300 by the end of the year when I started posting my first chapters a bit more than a month ago.

Ratings are getting quite colorful on my first chapter (and that's after the mods removed three 0.5s)

Still, I'm quite happy with how readers react after they move a bit further in the story.

Some reviews just make your day 😊

Just as some bonus content to entertain everybody?

I asked a similar question on r/royalroad a while ago. But I asked specifically about sharing them on RR. And the general sentiment was it may be OK to do that, but only occasionally.

So, what's your opinion?

It also brings some randomness to the appearances of some minor characters.

So, the main question. I've been sharing these illustrations with my alpha-readers and the response was quite positive.

Would you vote pro or against sharing these images with chapters on Patreon, for example?
November 25, 2024 at 9:18 AM
While working on the second draft, and especially when I started sharing chapters with alpha-readers, I generated an illustration for every single chapter of my book. It's sort of a part of my writing process and helps me to visualize some scenes and characters better.

Now that there are a bit more people in my feed, let me ask a controversial question about AI art :)

So, the cover for my book uses an AI-generated image (Midjourney). I can say right away that if the book attracts some attention, the plan is to invest in a proper artist-made book cover 🧵

I've got so excited and overstimulated by my book getting on the main Rising Stars list on Royal Road and constantly checking the stats, so that's how many words I wrote during the weekend.

Where is my hyperfocus when I need it?

Not too late in the evening right now. Will try to do a bit more.

Oh, here's a fun thing!

In 2006 I made a photo album for a friend of mine that had a memory stick embedded in the cover. I'm sure it was smaller than 1GB 😅

There seem to be a lot of bookish people here. So, I wanted to plug my main project as well. I am writing a book, that's true. But that's something I started doing just a few months ago. Before that, for almost 20 years, I've been _making_ books, teaching bookbinding, and making tools 🧵
November 23, 2024 at 8:10 AM
Yay! 2.5 weeks later, I've made it to the Rising Stars on Royal Road!

It's only in the Adventure category (hopefully, only for now) and only at the 50th place.

But I'm soooo happy!

(rating dropped again after I got a second 0.5 🤦)

Haha, in consonance with the previous post (a starter pack created by @rhysaries.com), here's a correction for a typo I just got on RR.

And, no, I'm not writing harem LitRPG, it's just my mind playing funny tricks with me 🤣
November 20, 2024 at 9:19 AM
Haha, just got my first 0.5 rating. Now, I'm truly a Royal Road author. Rite of passage accomplished.
