A poem.
Watching those in line Purchasing a cereal, milk, chicken, and a lime From South, from West, from North, from East. Isles in many seas. Large swathes of mountains, and endless forests hiding fountains. All of them, all walks of life. Fleeing a broken home to a new one. Heart sinking as I check the box, hoping others think of them. Hoping it is enough. The dream may be considered dead, but it is them, those who came here for a voice. For another choice to live in freedom, who give us a new dream. I cannot bear the thought of a tyrant taking all these kind souls away. Based on where they're from. How they came here. Why they are here. Our ancestors bear those same pains. Of famine. Of war. Of persecution. Of silent voices. Would us descendants sin by denying those just like our forefathers the same chance of being a part of the great human experiment. Save them. Don't let them go.
