after not having the spoons to do any astrophotography since like last summer, i finally went out last night and got this picture of the orion nebula (and the running man nebula!) :D
Picture of the Orion Nebula and the Running Man Nebula against the dark background of space. The Orion Nebula is large and bright, taking up most of the right half of the picture. The lower left part of it is very bright and light blue, lit by a tight cluster of blue stars and set in the center of a curving bluish arc. This arc envelops a reddish area that gets fainter toward the right. On the other side of the arc, across from the bright central star cluster, is an area of dark dust that obscures the nebula behind it. On the left side of the picture, the running man nebula is much smaller and fainter. There are two ghostly pale blue clouds with a thin dark area separating them, and some bright blue stars in the foreground.

an icy hike was exactly what i needed to reset my brain
View from a cliff overlooking a frozen river. A sandstone cliff topped with pine trees rises above the river on the left. It's a sunny day, with waves of clouds in a blue sky. An outcrop of rock several meters high in a canyon wall, made up of light-beige sandstone mottled with pale greenish-white lichen. A thick, massively bedded layer of rock sticking out at the bottom of the outcrop forms a sort of terraced, while more recessed layers above consist of two sets of large-scale angular cross beds dipping from right to left. The exposed undersides of some of the cross beds are red-otange with iron staining. The uppermost layer of the outcrop is more massively bedded, but some thin crossbeds stick out, also dipping toward the left. A bit of soil sits atop thr outcrop in some places, and there are ferns and small conifers growing. The ground is covered in snow and fallen leaves in the foreground, but at the base of the outcrop the rock surface is covered in loose sand. A frozen waterfall, roughly 3-4 meters tall and about as wide, spilling down from a sandstone cliff into a frozen pond littered with tree branches. The waterfall is a dense collection of icicles, mostly white but eith subtle hints of yellow and blue-green. Where the waterfall meets the pond, there are fallen icicle fragments frozen into the waterfall, and piles of bubbly ice like frozen froth. The cliff behind the waterfall is recessed, with more than enough space to fit a person. If this were a video game, there would be a treasure chest back there. A view looking upstream along a small stream cascading down a very narrow canyon. The sandstone walls on either side are several meters high. The stream has a relatively gentle slope, but in places that are sharp drops no more than a few tens of centimeters, like tiny frozen waterfalls or rapids. Above the stream, seen between the canyon walls, trees rise in the far background.
