Not a solo dev but I've had that experience with prototyping which ends in a rewrite. Usually leading to more bafflement. I do save the URL in a comment for the code I stole so I can return to the crime scene... And give credit if I ever release the thing. So far that hasn't happened though!

It's a question I've been asking myself for a long while. Since your GDC talk 😂 I've just never felt I could.
