Well, only in the dead ends inside a room. (max ~20 cells) There'll be a crate with some loot in each dead end though.

I'm not sure what you mean by backtracking amount.

The door locks are placed at the farthest possible spot away from the doors in a room. But, when you open them new enemies can spawn in.

You can go back as far as you want, but you don't really have to. If you die you'll respawn at the start.

The generation happens in moderately sized rooms and every room has only one entry and one exit point. Some walls get further removed inside the rooms get removed. So, you don't really get lost. But, the doors are locked and you need to open them, so sticking to a wall doesnt help much.
