That's from "Shame on You", released in 1997 and still so relevant today, even more so.

They played that song last night.

An excerpt from an Indigo Girls song:

There'll be blue lights flashin' down the long dirt road
When they ask me to step out
They say, "We've been looking for illegal immigrants
Can we check your car?"
I say, "You know it's funny
I think we were on the same boat back in 1694"

I arrived early for the concert, and while waiting I noticed the fantastic artwork that the Indigo Girls had as the backdrop for their set. It was like a tapestry of their human rights activism. I hope the girls release a full-res image of it someday so more people can appreciate it.

It was really special to get to see them play songs I grew up with, but also get to see Melissa Etheridge! They're touring together and Melissa played in the second half of the concert. I'm less familiar with Melissa's music but she was incredible. She's chatty on the mic, funny and warm.

Sadly, many Joann Fabrics stores are closing. Also, almost half of what they sell is imported:

"Joann sourced 44% of its purchases from foreign suppliers in its 2023 fiscal year"

"More than one-third of the Company’s foreign-sourced products come from China"

Joann Fabrics stores closing across the country. How did the craft store giant get here?
As Hudson-based Joann plans to close 500 of its roughly 850 stores in the U.S., we took a look back at how the retail chain got to this point.

This is wild and now I'm wondering how normal this was for the time period he lived in. Like would his peers also think he was nuts, or would they be like "Yeah that sounds totally reasonable"

One of my favorite lines from Waitress:

When your breaking point's all that you have
A dream is a soft place to land
May we all be so lucky
Sugar, butter, flour ✨

Yeah I felt the same way the year it came out. Both are excellent musicals. I am partial to Waitress though because I was already a big fan of Sara from before. The *poetry* of her lyrics! I was lucky enough to see Sara perform in one of the Waitress productions in NY a while back. 💕
