but please don't say The Fandom is x y or z. *most* (not all lol) fandoms are filled with people who just want to have fun with each other and love the thing they collectively love. we tend to dwell on the bad stuff, but that's a fraction of a fraction of what fandom is.

step back if you're more frequently annoyed being in a community than having fun. don't make negativity a big part of your experience or it will poison you. fandom is about liking things. if you can't do that, if a minority of people being assholes ruins that for you, step back.

we have our problems. racism chief among them, but that's a world problem not an ofmd fandom-specific problem. lesser issues like cliques are also a thing. but is that really the dominant vibe of our fandom? are you noticing the 1000 posts of positivity and art and love or the 1 rancid take?

it's very human to dwell on the negative. it's easy to think The Fandom is doing x y or z nasty thing. but the fact is when a community is formed based on a common interest and not compatible personality, there will be conflict. there will be bad actors.

no i meant taking blocking so personally is another function of community vs friendship. it can feel bad, maybe you even did something to "deserve" it, but self flagellating about it is unproductive and not good for you.

Just in the sense that we don't really know these people. we may be friendly but we're not friends. to be so invested in how other people whom we are not intimate with see us is silly at best and harmful at worst
