The sad thing is He makes it so obvious at points early in the story and they just can’t believe this obviously troubled person is anything more than a smart young man with a bright future ahead of him. I need to rewatch it in the near future it’s been too long.

If it’s the former she’s trying to seal the ends of her braids that are either sow ins or braid ins. If you don’t they will frizz up and come apart. It essentially locks it into shape so you don’t have to buy expensive gels or use spray.

This is probably why I had trouble using 3D models for pose references with photo references for my background it always felt like the character was in a different perspective despite the care I put into placing them in the environment.
