Just a robot tryin' to be a better human
It might just be a damning indictment of YouTube Music's reach, but these play counts are wild. Or maybe there is just more culture that's getting memory-holed than I realized.

Good Boy (2025) made me appreciate how a dog is both a sweet baby and the coolest possible dude and way more dogs should be the protagonists in stories. The movie works on the novelty alone, though the story is a little thin to hang an ending on.

What I see as I begin to question my perception of reality and ask myself "have I been sleeping on the Black Phone series to my own detriment?"

@hankgreen.bsky.social your Sora2 rant just made me resubscribe my two children into the bizarre beast pin club.

Now I understand this is on the bald devil's website, but this is one hell of a pitch.

With all due respect to Ben Hosley, is it a deliberate choice or just an algorithm thing that Fucked Up's Glass Boys comes up as the slow version by default everywhere?

Some shots of where all that Canadian forest fire smoke is coming from.

Thank you @poorlycatdraw.bsky.social for a solid night in with the fam.

I start Nightreign the same weekend I am listening to Michael Lutz explain Juul's idea that a game assigns values to outcomes and narratives that don't have different outcomes can't be games. By sucking ass at the first night boss, I achieve the same outcome every time...

Cleaning up my son's room with him means revisiting my childhood crimes (cutting the tabs off the M.A.S.K. figure's helmet to look more like the cartoon)

@rangedtouch.bsky.social there are few experiences in life that I treasure as much as an immune system induced delirium coupled with a movie, good or bad. Graveyard Shift rules and I love that @ckunzelman.bsky.social got to experience it in such an afterglow. #JustKingThings

Two thirds of the way through Werewolves and no one has accused a partially disrobed and hirsute Frank Grillo of lycanthropy.

Thank you @drlperezdiaz.bsky.social ! My eight year old loves How the Earth Works and I think this figure slightly uncalcified my brain tonight. Beautifully done.

It is not everyday you wake up surrounded by angels (unionized care workers), but you have to appreciate it when you do.

Sometimes I get a powerful urge to read video game manuals as I would as a pre-internet child. It also tricks my children into eating without screens when I read it aloud. Excessive exposition and superfluous world building isn't always a crime.

Probably the best recommendation I got this year was @kirkhamilton.com pumping up Lois McMaster Bujold's Chalion series. It made believe that as a tired and achy 35 to 40 something, I too could undertake an occasionally sexy hero's journey.

Decoder regularly delivers more than the podcast description suggests, but I can't help feeling that @reckless.bsky.social is uniquely positioned to deliver a tech biz interview that challenges the subject with six to twelve cigarettes, Hot Ones-style. This is my Christmas wish.

I am sure no one wants more amateur dragon age discourse, but here it is. After another obnoxious dragon fight, I was frustrated and confused that the combat was such shit and I still wanted to play more.

Today I sent a Warren Ellis omnibus and an Ed Piskor book to my cousin's husband. I feel like I just passed on the It Follows curse.

For various reasons, I find myself with duplicates of movies on physical media and I was considering putting them in the little lending libraries in the neighborhood. It's either going to be a boon to some resourceful nerds I don't know or make enemies of the local book purists.

@cgroenink.bsky.social your new book has had multiple bedtime encores at my house. I am inadequately fielding so many questions about the fascinating author's notes. It is much appreciated.
