One of my earliest computing memories was with a Vic 20. I was very young, no idea what to do... I typed in a description of a Mr Men game I wanted it to create. Obviously it didn't do anything at all... but some 40 years later I typed similar into an early version of ChatGPT and it spat out code!

Where I've found it particularly useful, is working in a language / environment I have zero experience of. Specifically, I started messing about with Next BASIC and some machine code - no idea what the hell I was doing, but ChatGPT helped me make a usable demo. Very cool.

I think of AI as an interactive manual… I’ll have some back and fourth with ChatGPT when I get stuck with a problem, and while it rarely gives me the correct answer, it’ll often set me on the right track. It feels a lot like comparing notes with fellow computer geeks in the playground in the 90’s.

A generation is way too big a catchall, but there were distinct eras.
I was born in 1980. My early years, probably something like Manic Miner. In the early 90's it's console wars on the playground. Mario vs Sonic. Then mid-late 90's it's DOOM/Quake on PC and Goldeneye & GTA on consoles.
