It's new to us that we have people from substack moving over. I've forwarded the request to our product team.
In the meantime manual import would be needed.

I hear you loud and clear. These are all topics that we monitor closely. Currently it's not viable for us to change course so drastically, as we're a super small team and prioritize improving the existing product.
Have you checked out @ghost.org as an open source option?

We're currently switching the payment processors in the background to achieve exactly that + make everything more flexible so we can offer a broader set of features.

I can't promise a release date, but it's our highest priority dev project now. :-)
