The night before, a veteran shot up my mom’s work in Southport, North Carolina under the guise of protecting his community from a conspiracy being ran through his local watering hole. He had flags raised about him since 2019.

He was activated by the shooting of Charlie Kirk by a member of the LDS church. He attacked an LDS church under the guise of “protecting americans” and his community.

I went to the same high school as the Michigan shooter. He was in my sister’s class. He was recruited by a marine who was allowed to join us for lunch. He was abandoned by the military upon his return from Iraq years ago, despite community members noticing he needed support.

Until veterans are afforded the support they deserve upon coming home, we cannot keep feeding teenage men to this pipeline that creates mass tragedies in our communities.
