I mean, hell, I've read literally*everything* else there is to read on the Crisis, except maybe for that book about how artists gentrified buildings in the Lower East Side. So I've gotta see it.

Kind of important that I do, but I wasn't able to get back to NY when it was screening and haven't found anywhere where it is streaming in Canada, yet. Will likely just write to the producers out of desperation, since it would be kind of odd for me to send 'Debt City' out w/out having seen it...

I have reached the point where I am skimming Bluesky and so any further discussion with myself to pretend that I will do more work is a lie, a lie as big as Yonkers' City Manager's lie that their Oct 1975 deficit projection was due to a shortfall in tax collections. Lie, lie, lie, lie LIE

Why did Yonkers have a fiscal crisis in 1975? Surprise surprise, it turns out they were bingeing on short-term debt to finance deficits even more than NYC was, in relative terms, exploiting the same loopholes. $60m in current $ due in 1976. On a budget of $140m! For a city of 200k. Truly insane.

I remain quietly bitter that I'm doing this level of research while other people just get to make stuff up.
Tonight's notes *finally* tied off my overresearched demolition of the 'Yonkers Fiscal Crisis' of 1975. It seems -?- as if I've assembled more than any other secondary source so far-?

I don't believe any of this, per se, and while some things are myths, some myths are useful to humanity in the grand scheme of things. "But who's scheme of things?" is the obvious rejoinder.
My head is clear now, thanks for allowing me to babble incoherently on social media, testing its true power.

The Costco US$1.50 hot dog is a myth, because we as a society pretend that the cost of something is the retail price, devoid of any calculation of the hot dog's many externalities.

Sure, NASA landed on the Moon. But what is a moon, really? Why is *our* moon elevated over other moons? Why don't we say "the Moons" and foreground Mars' moons over our own? Why is the satellite secondary, and the planet primary? Who's to say it isn't the other way around, or should be?

People say you're a dreamer
But you're not the only one
I hope someday you'll rezone us
So the city can live as one
But you're not the only one

I don't have a problem with chopping it up, but if you do it "by ward," it's a matter of time before it looks like Chicago with 50 de facto neighborhood mayors.

See my second post (although the Community Council areas are too big, and it would be better to chop them into smaller pieces in any more coherent reform)
