Why did Yonkers have a fiscal crisis in 1975? Surprise surprise, it turns out they were bingeing on short-term debt to finance deficits even more than NYC was, in relative terms, exploiting the same loopholes. $60m in current $ due in 1976. On a budget of $140m! For a city of 200k. Truly insane.

I remain quietly bitter that I'm doing this level of research while other people just get to make stuff up.

I don't believe any of this, per se, and while some things are myths, some myths are useful to humanity in the grand scheme of things. "But who's scheme of things?" is the obvious rejoinder.

My head is clear now, thanks for allowing me to babble incoherently on social media, testing its true power.

The Costco US$1.50 hot dog is a myth, because we as a society pretend that the cost of something is the retail price, devoid of any calculation of the hot dog's many externalities.

Sure, NASA landed on the Moon. But what is a moon, really? Why is *our* moon elevated over other moons? Why don't we say "the Moons" and foreground Mars' moons over our own? Why is the satellite secondary, and the planet primary? Who's to say it isn't the other way around, or should be?

You may be missing my point. ;)

I don't have a problem with chopping it up, but if you do it "by ward," it's a matter of time before it looks like Chicago with 50 de facto neighborhood mayors.
