*Double self portrait / 35 years apart / 10.31.25

So loaded with technical mistakes and yet, in retrospect, it is remarkably great as a document of my life. Where I was at. What I looked like. That stiffness eventually gave wave to confidence, and better ways of expressing myself.

Packing up my band archive and realized I still have several blank cassettes for my 4-track Tascam machine. I sort of put music and art on hold in a lot of ways the last 10-15 years. If I survive this move and the legal bullshit from the greedy estate I may try again on both fronts.

The conduit to shared experiences is empathy. It's not a magic trick. The thirst for knowledge helps us embrace others. If it does not, is it more about distancing oneself from the truth.

Onion Bloom (inflorescence) + individual Pedicle/flowers (?)

The ball is just a little larger than a golf ball-although the Peduncle over 4 feet in height. The single bloom is about the size of the head of a pencil's eraser. Pretty astonishing detail for the standard iPhone camera.

This Epithelium was rescued from a broken pot which had fallen down between two fences and gone dormant. I split it, and repotted both pieces. After two years they're both spouting new leaves, or blooming. Mother Nature never ceases to amaze me. Photo: Same bloom approximately one month apart.

Closing in on 40 years of having orchids..and I have never had a single commercial plant self pollinate. Going through their process of germinating these seeds until they become baby orchids is a pain (I've done it, the beakers and growth medium, lighting changes and everything)...but I'm tempted.

*Millions* of your fellow white supremacist Trump supporters voted to deport moms. And they didn't keep their gleeful embrace of that cruelty hidden, Vanessa.

Weekend Listening...newest album by Alan Sparhawk w/ Trampled By Turtles

Everything before you get to the music is visually stunning including the vinyl. Then the music stops you in its tracks. Not Broken and Get Still are already sinking in on first listen.

More soon.

Emma Swift, last night at The Chapel. My make up gig for the one I missed at Sweetwater in 2022. She was great (Luther Russell too) and I was glad to hear three more new songs, which added to the fourth one I heard on the KALX broadcast. Roll on album release day!

I'm always fascinated by the textures and patterns in nature. Even pushed to utter abstraction, or in the smallest amount, it still seems beautiful.

On my commute home from work/school in the mid-90s, I used to doodle. Just unearthed my sketchbooks from this period, as I am packing to move. The Poetry is iffy, but the art has Shades of Bill Plimpton. I did find real love eventually, even if I did have to hold my breath for a while.
