This is, what, my 4th playthrough of gen 9? It's so strange, I understood and agreed with so much of the criticism against this game, and yet, there's something about it that keeps me coming back. despite its flaws, this truly is a special game. one of those games where you know it's got problems out the wazoo but those high moments, are what make you love a game like this. I think there is a great framework here, with a lot of room for improvement sure. I think the story and characters are some of the best in any pokemon game, and I feel the endgame is genuinely one of the greatest in any video game. if you know, you know. I love this game, a whole lot. I'm not sure why I do, but I'm not gonna complain.

I have no idea why I went through my whole childhood, growing up with this game, never beating it until now. this game is honestly really great. It's so simple, so short, but it works so well in its favor. It's extremely replayable, and fun to try to master the ghost catching mechanics. the presentation is one of the best parts too, the music, the aesthetics of the mansion and ghosts, it meshes together perfectly. I mean there's some annoying bits, some of the portrait ghosts are troublesome, a lot of the later boos are very annoying, and I hate boolossus with a passion. but I can look past that. great game.

Pokemon Legends: Z-A: fuck pikachu. iykyk. [full review in alt text!]
I am fortunate enough to have dodged almost every spoiler, and most of the, sadly expected discourse surrounding this game, so i have unfiltered thoughts here. Pokemon Legends Z-A excels in so many areas, and falls short in a couple others. I think deviating away from turn based battles was a nice breath of fresh air, and at least in my case, it offered a decent challenge. Visually, while basic looking, it is clean and runs well, at least on switch 2. I wish more could've been put into the graphics but I'm not complaining after scarlet and violet looked as bad as they did. The music is stellar, I found myself humming just about every overworld and battle theme. I mostly enjoyed the new mega pokemon we got, no spoilers though. I think the main gameplay loop did get a bit repetitive, though I remember having a similar gripe with Legends Arceus. The story and characters I found very fun, lovable, and heartfelt. The theme of these people having connections to Lumiose, and developing a love for the city, it had me feeling the same. There's an amazing sense of comraderie and community in this game's story, and while I don't know if I like it more than SV's story, it comes damn close. My main gripes come from the often times boring and uninteresting side missions, and the INSANE grind just for the shiny charm. you need to do basically every one of mable's research tasks, including winning ONE. THOUSAND. TRAINER BATTLES. it's fucking absurd. It's all so boring and tedious. I did complete the pokedex which, I did find fun to be fair, but all that work, just for increased shiny odds? nah, I'm good. Despite that, the game at its core is really damn good, and I'm happy I enjoyed it as much as I did.

Pac-Man World 2 Re-Pac: so spooky's VA in this game is frieza apparently so damn I guess golden pac-man DOES beat golden frieza [full review in alt text!]
I was very impressed by the love and effort put into this remake, or perhaps a reimagining in some ways. I love that getting 100% doesn't require you to get every damn pac-dot, I like that there's extra challenges even though most of them are extremely mundane or infuriating, thankfully there's only a few of the latter. I like that tine trials are incentivized, and I really like most of the boss fights. there's like, three stinkers in the whole game but other than that they're great. I personally think this is the best version of world 2, even despite my nostalgia. They even added a lot of post game content that's practically a kaizo pac-man level pack, make of that what you will. the gashapon are take it or leave it for me I don't care for em. I think the main issue is that this game doesn't play around LOL. and while I find that a good thing for like 85% of the adventure, it's that last 15% where the game makes me want to lose my goddamn mind with the difficulty spikes. I just don't understand why most bosses don't have checkpoints, save for the pac-marine one. they take much longer than the original on average, so having to start the whole long fight over again because you got destroyed or KNOCKED INTO A FUCKING PIT- is extremely, EXTREMELY aggravating. this game has the jank and flaws that kinda come with the territory of a budget remake of a nostalgic classic, but I can look past that because the vast majority of what's here is really damn good, and filled with tons of love and care it feels like. it's cheap too! go try it

I had relatively high hopes for this game, so i'm very happy my expectations were met, even surpassed in some ways. I do, however, have several gripes. I think the game control is pretty stellar, and minus chao park i really enjoy the vast majority of tracks in this game, the music is pretty good too. not exactly amazing but it's solid, great even. the game looks, and runs fantastic too, i don't have many complaints in regards to that. now.. the problems. first, this one is kinda minor, i really think there should've been a story mode. it's not at all a dealbreaker, but i do wish there was one. another is the lack of voices for some DLC characters. now for crossover characters like joker, pac-man, spongebob, etc. I get it. it's a little disappointing but i get it. where i DON'T get it, is with miku for one. she has a voice technically but she only ever makes weird squee noises. why? you don't even need to pay anyone for that you can have that for free. the BIG issues, are with the sonic prime characters, and the werehog. fucking. WHY? why are they not voiced at all? for the werehog you could've just reused jason griffith clips from unleashed, and for the prime guys, if you didn't wanna pay for the actual prime VAs fine, BUT YOU HAD THE GAME VAS FOR TAILS, KNUCKLES, AND AMY. WHY COULDN'T YOU USE THEM? it is just.. extremely dumb, in the case of those sonic character DLCs in particular. at least mods can remedy it somewhat on PC but i shouldn't need mods. another big issue is item balancing. it's like mario kart wii on roids. the game is still very fun, but that fun is often interrupted by complete bullshit item usage thanks to stupid gadgets or just the items being insanely overpowered. aside from those things, i love this game! i like it more than mario kart world. and like that's not a jab at it. I just happened to like this more.

Sonic the Hedgehog 2 (replay): insane how the "bad" ending is better than the true ending because getting the chaos emeralds in this game is utter hell [full review in alt text!]
If someone were to ask me "what should my first sonic game be?" I'd point to three games. sonic generations, sonic adventure 1 or 2, either or honestly, and this, sonic 2. it's not my favorite sonic game, maybe I'll log that in this thread someday, but sonic 2 is basically the quintessential sonic game. It has everything someone needs to let them know whether they'll like sonic or not. I think it's great, but also shows the hedgehog's shortcomings at times too. the first few zones are amazing, almost a perfect balance of speed and platforming, coupled with amazing music and visuals for the time. the last few zones fall short a bit, particularly oil ocean and metropolis especially, but the amazing music and visuals still stand. I absolutely hate the final boss, not as much as I used to but it's extremely stressful and I hate it haha. Sonic 2 is one of the easiest sonic games to just pick up and play, and it's one of his best even if it's flawed

I wasn't expecting too much out of this other than it's one of the best gameboy games. and yeah it is honestly. I did have way more fun with this than I thought i would though. I thought the controls were very fun, maybe a bit slippery, most of the level design was pretty good, loved the soundtrack, and thought the visuals had a wonderful charm to them for being on the gameboy. kind of a sleeper hit for me

I definitely do like this game more than the first but not by a whole lot. It controls better, I kinda like the level design better, although the visuals kinda hurt my eyes? the soundtrack was kinda whatever.. yeah, it's pretty alright lol. There's really not much for me to say. Fuck demon head though, stupid ass fight

So.. for about a year or so I've tried to play this game on and off every few months, and I could never get past the first few levels for whatever reason. But a few days ago I guess.. something clicked? and I ended up finally playing to completion. I liked it though! it was a big ol' neat. Not really amazing but hey, I liked it, it's cool.
