21. Buckshot Roulette

It's a game with very compelling mechanics that makes it fun and addictive. Multiplayer is also very funny. Plus there's a good amount of hidden story going on.

20. The Plucky Squire

This game is is unapologetically for children, but I honestly did like it quite a bit. It was not done in a cringe kinda way. Yes I was super hyped for this and am saddened by the missed potential, but this is a great possible first game for someone.

Well, it's Balatro, so uh, peak.

18. The Hex

Daniel Mullins' games are quite the treasure and this one was pretty intriguing indeed. I played it all in one night on Halloween and enjoyed the genre hopping and the twists. Don't want to spoil any of it of course though.

17. Rivals of Aether 2

I already love smash bros and this game takes that, makes the movement way smoother, and holds a cast of really unique and creative characters. Perhaps the most fun multiplayer game I've played last year and boy did I play it a lot.

16. Paper Mario The Thousand Year Door

The next longest game I played in 2024 and it was amazing. I enjoyed every hour I played and went on to fully 100% do everything. Loved this remake a lot and haven't ever played the original.

15. Sayonara Wild Hearts

I honestly didn't think I'd like this game as much as I ended up liking it. It was indeed really fun, though incredibly short. I find it hard to describe what it even is too, but I enjoyed the experience enough to fully complete it all.

14. Small Saga

Interesting feelings on this one. Yeah it was pretty comedic, well paced, and had a good premise, but getting through it felt unmotivating for me. Maybe I was getting a bit burnt out. Also some parts felt weird with just a lack of music going on, but it was okay.

13. Lethal Company

Oh man, playing this game somehow just magically creates the funniest content. Additionally, it just has so many fun features to play with, especially in a group of friends. I would call this the most immersive game I've played too, with how the audio works.

12. Cocoon

I really liked the visuals and the world of this game. A lot of the ideas presented here were really nifty too. As a puzzle game, however, it wasn't super innovative and was rather linear in the possible solutions, but still enjoyable to figure out.

11. Hyper Light Drifter

I was actually surprised how much harder this game was than I expected. It's more like a top-down soulslike than just a zelda-like. Many of the achievements are also kind of insane and maybe one day I will go back to get the rest.

10. Hades

This one made up a majority of my combined playtime this year. I'm sure you already know how great it is though. Started this back when 1.0 released and came back occasionally, but I finally beat it and took the long road to completion as well. Excited for Hades 2.

9. My Friend Pedro

This game was a little silly and pretty short. Overall, not much to say about it, it was alright and made me feel a bit cool pulling stuff off.

8. Townscaper

Of the cozy games I could play, this one is pretty darn neat. Building little towns on the giant watery canvas has such a cool feeling. Also the small architectural secrets that different configurations can form are nice to discover.

7. Little Nightmares 2

I've heard both that this one was better and that it was worse than the first, but I really find it about the same quality-wise overall. About all I have to say about it other than that it was fun and cool.

6. Sky Children of the Light

I like that this game exists. An MMO that's basically just Journey. Sadly, it isn't really my kinda thing for an extended period of time, but playing crossplay multiplayer was a great time.

5. Grim Fandango Remastered

Peak storytelling right here. This was such an enjoyable game to go through, especially due to all the unique and lively characters. It was also really funny. Still need to do a 2nd playthrough for the rest of the achievements.

4. Super Monkey Ball Banana Mania

Owned this game for a while now already, but I finally got around to beating the single player mode. It wasn't really spectacular and, at least from what I can remember, not as great as the original game's campaign, but still fun bc monkey ball.

3. Bomb Rush Cyberfunk

Now this is a cool ass game. Sure the tricks system isn't super creative or anything, but there's so much you can do in this game and all of it is really really fun. Of course, I also need to mention that insane visual style and the soundtrack.

2. Gunbrella

Coming right after Katana Zero, this was unfortunately a little underwhelming. The movement, story, and game as a whole were pretty well crafted, but it just seemed to do nothing special. Still a one-of-a-kind experience though.

1. Katana Zero

Started off the year pretty strongly with this short but awesome game. I played it 3 times in a row to get full completion and it was a blast. Movement feels really good so it's a high recommend.
