Did they make a Semiotic Standard Sticker Book using Ron Cobb's graphics for Alien? Because they should have!
November 12, 2025 at 3:40 PM
Knocked up a quick interpretation of that graphic for Kirk's quarters this morning. Then it occurred to me to check the TMP sticker book and it is indeed in there too, as is Ilia's. No idea if it actually appears in the films tho.

me when there’s new art auctions:
November 12, 2025 at 3:25 PM
I got a bit confused when I first saw the reverse of that Borg head, because the auction site also post photos of the reverse of the art where the marker ink has bled through. I thought I was looking at that when I realised… hang on a minute! 😆

8. More art from the DS9 VHS covers. Beautiful little Enterprise.
9. And finally, if I could buy just one modest thing, I think I would love some original art from the TNG Technical Manual!

6. Many will have seen this vertical Romulan warbird concept before
7. But I hadn't seen this other angle of it

(I really want to call it a vertibird, but I know that's a term already used for something else entirely)

4. I've seen this art of a Borg drone many times before
5. But never the back of his head!

A few other bits that caught my eye:

1. Wonderful marker illustration of Voyager's landing legs deployed
2. More details on said legs
3. The "Noble-class" USS Equinox.

Loads of great stuff from Joe recently, especially but not exclusively related to Rick Sternbach and TNG (that's just what catches my eye).

I'm guessing there's an auction happening!

I'm sure you've heard of the Roughnecks animated series too. I'm sure it looks very dated today, but I was into it at the time because it was made by Foundation Imaging who did Babylon 5. I remember it being good.

In reality the original Discovery logo was a modified version of a commercial font called REDRAIL SUPERFAST designed by Glenn Parsons and published by astroluxtype in 2014. /3
November 11, 2025 at 3:28 PM
The tweet didn't claim to show the real design process and I'm sure that the font roll call was just hastily thrown together for the video. But I do wonder if the deltas shown were seriously considered? /2

I could hardly agree more. John Eaves did a fantastic job with the design and then they messed it up after it left his hands.

In fact, I had a hard time believing that Gabe's Enterprise wasn't at least *inspired* by the teaser trailer. The nacelles in particular are very similar.

It's probably a case of parallel evolution. Ryan Church's official Enterprise concept art even shows translucent nacelles. /3
November 10, 2025 at 2:48 PM
The confusion may have been compounded by the fact that Gabe was a VFX pro who had worked on ENT as well as some JJ Abrams shows (Lost, Alias) plus several big feature films by 2007 (The Day After Tomorrow, Serenity).

Gabe had hoped to work on the 2009 film. /2
