mist me like some kind of small amphibian
@standupingenium.bsky.social
she/her, 28. MANGA SPOILERS: Vigs / BNHA / JJK. Might Homestuck. Occasionally fake gamer. You either know me from iideku, Hikage Shinomori, or Toge and Yuuta. Or you don’t know me yet! Hello!
I have OTHER criticisms mind you but it's mostly that I think we overuse identity nouns to discuss crime which is unrelated
November 15, 2025 at 4:06 AM
But thank you for sticking through and clarifying!
November 15, 2025 at 4:05 AM
I don't share your criticism of that statement
November 15, 2025 at 4:05 AM
I hear you that it's proposing that tech that makes it easy to hurt people should be less moddable. At the same time I don't know how to tell a story about tech that can be modded to hurt people in a way that doesn't include that in its pondering
November 15, 2025 at 3:45 AM
I think you might be getting at the idea that this video implies Meta should have designed the glasses to be more impervious to modding, which would be anti Right to Repair? In which case I hear that point but I think it's one of many points pondering how to invent tech that can hurt people
November 15, 2025 at 3:45 AM
Huh. I... rewatched it just now and I firmly disagree. I think this story doesn't draw any conclusions about modding outside of its specific instance and doesn't imply any.
November 15, 2025 at 3:42 AM
What is "modding is for perverts" about?
November 15, 2025 at 3:33 AM
.....I'm starting to think I'm looking at a different headline than you. "Modded Meta Ray-Ban Glasses To Spy On People?"

You also worded your OP as "modding is for perverts" so I still am confused about how you're not taking issue with the way it frames modding, not just Meta?
November 15, 2025 at 3:33 AM
Huh. So we think that someone modded the light away for purposes that couldn't be colloquially described as spying?
November 15, 2025 at 3:26 AM
I used the word "reporting" but don't consider the video "reporting." Okay I'm done spamming your notifs now
November 15, 2025 at 3:21 AM
to be super clear, it's question and not counter argument. Sometimes I can be quite slow and I'm very worried this is a case of me having completely misread everything.
November 15, 2025 at 3:18 AM
Or if it's not bad overall, what is bad about the reporting
November 15, 2025 at 3:16 AM
I'm confused now by a lot of your responses but to try to untangle is instead of tangling us worse: I'm asking you about the OP. Why is it bad to report on technology that lends itself to exploitation being used for exploitation especially when it points out gaps in existing legislation/etc
November 15, 2025 at 3:16 AM
Is exploitation the word? I'm not sure it's the word. Recording sensual videos is a career that some people consent to and are paid for, creating it nonconsensually is a really obvious problem and this technology has really obviously made it easier. People are documented already doing it
November 15, 2025 at 3:15 AM
power, because (nearly) everyone wields power of some kind in some way. I just don't understand the problem with wanting to figure out how to organize society in a way that is aware of potential exploitation and some technologies introduce easier ways to do exploitation.
November 15, 2025 at 3:15 AM
Oh, I know that those were sort of sarcastic imagined responses. I'm confused what your criticism is that you're voicing in the original OP. I think surveillance is a form of power regardless of whether it's law enforcement or civilians wielding it-- that's not me saying that no one should wield
November 15, 2025 at 3:15 AM
There is ethical ground that needs to be tread and retread and retread about when people have the right to be recording video of other people and when people have the right to not be recorded, and I feel like right to privacy is a basic tech conversation
November 14, 2025 at 10:57 AM
This is a genuine probing for a little more information on what your stance is exactly rather than a counterargument but I think that sometimes people invent things for the purpose of doing unethical things and it's normal to be aware of that.
November 14, 2025 at 10:57 AM
I'm confused a little about the concerns for transparency for surveillance methods in the same thread decrying the idea of concerns over invisible surveillance. A technology has been invented that's being used to record people nonconsensually and in secret, including in compromising positions
November 14, 2025 at 10:57 AM
OH DID I NEVER. SHOW YOU THIS ONE?????? I WAS SO EXCITED TO
