Still watching too much old telly, playing with trains and digging through crates of records
Yes, I was furiously trying to get my labels generated before midnight for that reason

It would take a courageous Government to tackle all the distortions in the tax/benefit system so that, for example, the employer NI increase could be avoided and the funding instead obtained by savings on the benefit top up bill because employers instead pay reasonable wages. 2/2

That reveals an unintended consequence of 'tax credits' which moved from tax relief for people with children etc to direct payment of top-up credit which has in turn led to employers paying below-living-wage salaries instead expecting the state to make up the shortfall 1/2

The challenge with assets is that by selling them to realise the tax, you risk losing their future earning capacity. I'd welcome an honest debate on inheritance tax in general that wasn't simply about whether to levy or not but looked at how it worked - e.g. tax the recipient not the estate?

I'm with you on ownership being a distraction, but wow, what a distraction. It is also too common for either ownership model to be compromised, e.g. limiting a nationalised operator's opportunity to innovate or regulating a private-sector one so much that every decision is effectively a state one

However, unlike most stores, they progressively mark things down until it sells. Go into the basement and there are 10p LP records there - when was the last time you saw an LP for 10p in a charity shop?

I think that's why this is his most satisfying championship, it's one where we have been able to see the driver make the difference even in less than perfect equipment in a way that only a select few in motor racing history have been able to do
