And now, time to chime in with *your* ideas—what else should we do, post-unification?

As an aside, I’m not sure this is what the 🍊💩 has in mind when he bleats about bringing Canada into the US. Be careful what you wish for, eh? But the more I think about it, the better it sounds. LFG! 11/11 🧵 end

With the court depoliticized, we will be able to restore the proper interpretation of the Second Amendment…you know, giving due weight to the part about “a well-regulated militia” that none of the 2A supporters ever seem to want to talk about. 10/11 🧵

I suggest Barack Obama for one, Hilary Clinton for a second, and Jasmine Crockett for a third seat…all attorneys; all with impeccable credentials. I’m sure there is a good fourth candidate, too. 9/11 🧵

First up, we need to do something about healthcare. That one is easy: Sen. Sanders has Medicare For All ready to go. Simple votes.

Next, we need to do something about all the guns. For that we need to start by depoliticizing the so-called “supreme” court. Straightforward: add 4 more seats. 8/11 🧵

OK, so Canada joins the Union. Congress suddenly has a solidly progressive majority; ditto the Senate. Someone progressive (Trudeau? 🤔) becomes the new Speaker of the House. Both the 🍊💩 and James the 🛋️🍆er get impeached by the House and convicted in the Senate…welcome President Trudeau. 🤯 7/11 🧵
March 12, 2025 at 2:15 AM
Do you think that maybe those 20 new Senators and 46 new Congresspeople are likely to lean more to the progressive side of politics than the conservative side? 🤔 (Spoiler alert: they absolutely would.) Hey, this is starting to sound like it might be a good thing after all! 6/11 🧵
March 12, 2025 at 2:15 AM
Current highly-populated states such as California, Texas, Florida, and New York would each lose a few reps, but those 10 new states would collectively be sending roughly 46 new representatives to Congress. 5/11 🧵
March 12, 2025 at 2:15 AM
OK, so now we have 60 states. What would that mean back in Washington DC? For starters, 20 new members of the Senate. 👍🏼 Also, the national population just increased by ~40 million, so reapportionment of the House of Representatives will clearly be required. 4/11 🧵

Sidebar: special bonus credit to every US citizen who can name *any* of the 10 Canadian provinces. Double bonus if you know any of the territories too. (Oh, who am I kidding…most people in the US can’t even name all 50 of their *current* states. 😑) 3/11 🧵
March 12, 2025 at 2:15 AM
First question: how *many* states will they be? Canada is nearly 6 times as large as Alaska, so clearly it’s not feasible for them to be just a single state. If each province or territory became a state, that would add 13, but let’s err on the low side and only count the 10 provinces. 2/11 🧵

This would be a real concern, except…well, the GQP legislators aren’t actually smart enough to play that game, and the people behind the puppets still think the 🍊💩 can deliver. (8/8)

The MAGAt broflakes will bleat and moan for a few minutes, of course, until they figure out that nothing has really changed, and voilá, the GQP will have cemented its majority for several more terms. Bloodless coup; no Jodie Foster groupies required. (7/8)
March 1, 2025 at 6:43 PM
they reclaim some centrists by slacking off a *tiny* bit on the racist and xenophobic rhetoric, and they yank the rug out from under the congressional democrats, who have neither a message nor a plan at the moment except trying to stop the damage—and who will have just gotten what they want.(6/8)
March 1, 2025 at 6:43 PM
Presto! They have completely shifted the balance of power, and made it possible for a slightly-less-overtly-sickening—but still highly conservative—agenda to sail through the legislative process quickly. They get their business donors/voters back by repudiating the 🍊💩’s tariff threats, (5/8)
March 1, 2025 at 6:43 PM
This would give them a weak and inexperienced president, likely to be compliant to whatever congress wants, plus the implicit threat of Pence (who no one would really want) moving up if anything were to happen to ol’ JD. (4/8)
March 1, 2025 at 6:43 PM
Given that, even the most right-wing nutjob congresscritter might see the logic of a preemptive strike: impeach, convict, and remove their Dear Leader immediately. Install James the Couch Humper as president, with someone like Mike Pence as vp. (3/8)

(BTW, before you roll your eyes, realize that, as of yesterday’s debacle in the White House, the preceding sentence is 100% a true statement. ) Anyway…. (2/8)

OK, maybe my prose isn't as poetic as Mr. Swift's, but I still think it is beyond ironic that the people who claim to want smaller government cannot possibly survive without large government. It is very likely that those people have now officially entered the "...and Find Out" stage—good! 8/8

Now, just how long do you think it would be before the Taker states—Mississippi, Alabama, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Florida, and the rest of the deep south and upper midwest—started experiencing social collapse? Which state(s) do you think would go first? (My money would be on Mississippi.) 7/8

...because only food grown here would be guaranteed to meet our safety standards. We would also negotiate drug prices directly with manufacturers to support our healthcare, and take other, similar measures to protect our residents. Again, not seceding from the Union, just empowering our state. 6/8
February 21, 2025 at 11:09 PM
and so on. Note that we might need to improve security at our own state-level borders to keep out undesirables and deplorables, and Mitt Romney's 47%, but we know how to do that. We would also prioritize keeping the products of our states—food, in particular—for ourselves... 5/8
