I don’t claim to be an expert on capybaras because my sample size (of one) is too small for any viable scientific analysis. What I can claim is relative success in raising and caring for that one capybara, Dobby.

In mild Pacific Northwest summers, slugs are everywhere. Step on one and instantly become a cartoon character slipping on a banana peel. They go underground in winter. Or maybe they come into your house.

I have seen sixteen summers and sixteen winters, so I'm suspicious when the weather changes. Mostly I notice the sun moving further away and passing lower in the sky. It gets lazy- sleeps late and goes to bed early. The short days cool off before we have time to bask in the sunlight. I think winter is coming.

Snapping turtles are in the news! A couple days ago, a lifeguard at a Seattle area park discovered and safely removed a large snapping turtle. They are an invasive species here, but I am certain it was treated with respect and will find a suitable home. However, Stacy's Funny Farm does not take in Snapping Turtles, and Dr. Pepper, our Red-Eared Slider Turtle, would not appreciate sharing his happy home with a monster like this.

Rodent teeth continually grow, therefore they chew. Everybody knows what a mouse hole looks like and that a tiny mouse chewed it into existence. Beavers chew down big trees for their dams, lodges, and then they eat it for lunch. Capybaras eat grass and corn on the cob, but what else do they eat?
