“Yeah, some.” Now I grinned, deciding to tease Mike. “Who?” “Stacy Simson.” I was now pulling Mike's chain. Stacy was absent from school that day, but we both were in Mr. Diaz's class. Mike had a major crush on her. In truth, I had a crush on her myself but had never admitted it to anyone. She was cute, and I noticed her body was changing, but what kept my interest in Stacy was that she was smart and talented. I fell for her when she gave a presentation in class about gender equality last year. It wasn’t just about the context but also the passion she displayed. Unfortunately for Mike, he was not anywhere near the smartest person in school, and while I was a little out of shape, he was noticeably out of shape and didn’t like any sports. I had never really thought about it, but Uther’s memories made me realize that, in all probability, Stacy and Mike had nothing in common. Stacy was smart, athletic, and musically talented. She had just recently brought her new saxophone to show the class. She also played flute and piano, enjoyed skiing, and wrote reports on gender equality. Mike enjoyed watching monster movies and referred to women as chicks.
