Just wrapped an HX podcast episode with Justin Long—his journey from trauma and addiction to self-love and leadership was deeply moving. It reminded me how knowing yourself is the first step to leading others. How has self-awareness shaped your work or leadership?

In healthcare, showing empathy, concern, or even frustration doesn’t make us weak; it makes us human. Emotions are signals that guide better care and stronger teams, and ignoring them can do more harm than good.

When have you seen emotions improve patient care or teamwork?

Just because Gen Xers are approaching midlife doesn't mean it has to be a "midlife crisis".

When we reframe midlife as an opportunity rather than a source of stress, we open new doors for personal fulfillment and professional growth. #HX

Great reminder from Adam Grant.

My work continues to teach me that cognitive flexibility really is about staying curious, listening to different perspectives, and being willing to learn as you go. The teams that thrive aren’t always the “smartest,” but the ones who adapt and grow together.
Intelligence depends on more than cognitive horsepower. It requires cognitive flexibility.

The faster the world evolves, the greater the cost of rigidity. Stubbornness is a path to getting trapped in the past.

The future belongs to those with the courage to change their minds.

Recently, I noticed I kept reaching for distractions instead of rest. So I started pausing and asking, “What would actually restore me?” Walks, naps, or connecting with a friend made all the difference.

I'm curious: How do you know what you need to restore yourself?

A study in Scientific Reports reminded me that benevolent leadership, warmth + guidance, works only with trust and open communication. When people feel safe and valued, learning, collaboration, and growth naturally follow.

Leadership is about connection as much as direction!
‘Benevolent leadership’ enhances organizational learning, study finds
Researchers found that this approach can create the kind of workplace environment that encourages knowledge-sharing.

In this week’s #WorkWell episode, Jenn and I explore being tired vs. truly depleted. I’ve been there, and I want to encourage you to try this: take 5 mins daily to check in. Notice if you feel recharged, what you enjoy, or if you feel numb. Awareness is the first step to #SelfCare.

Lately, I’ve been trying a simple #gratitude practice: each night, I write down one challenge I faced and one thing I’m grateful for because of it. It’s helped shift my mindset from stress to #growth, a small habit with a surprisingly big impact.

I’ve often tried to hold on tight to plans or outcomes, hoping it would make things feel safer. But real #peace comes when I remember: #control is mostly an illusion.

#Healthcare reminds us that #burnout is a system problem, not a personal flaw. I've noticed that more leaders are moving past “tough it out” and learning that real strength comes from having each other’s backs.

The key lesson: Whatever we do, nobody should have to face their challenges alone.
