Byzantine coin (tetarteron nomisma) of Emperor John I Tzimiskes, found at the late 10th century AD settlement of Ciepłe, Poland #MedievalMonday
They are rare in northern Europe, indicating Ciepłe was a significant early medieval centre with elite connections to Byzantium.

NEW Artist's reconstruction of the early #medieval centre of Ciepłe, Poland. New research at the site indicates it was established by the first Piast rulers, possibly playing an important role in the formation of the Polish state.

Iron artefacts from a grave at the #medieval cemetery at Nowy Chorów 🇵🇱 #IronworkThursday
Originally a Christian inhumation burial, the grave was later reopened and the individual cremated, suggesting the combination of Christian and 'pagan' practices.
